Research and intelligence
The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) conducts citable research on how risks in the real economy reach the financial system, and on the methods used to measure them. Every finding carries one evidence label, its source owner and its limits, so a modelled figure is never read as an observed one. The research is precompetitive and industry-wide: it does not perform any institution's own credit, underwriting or investment analysis. This section belongs to The Global Risks Alliance home and feeds publications and professional briefs.

The short answer.
GRA research and intelligence is citable, precompetitive research on how risks in the real economy reach the financial system and on the methods used to measure them, across seven distinct areas. Every finding carries one evidence label, its source owner and its limits, and no research performs any institution's own credit, underwriting or investment analysis.

Financial centres and urban exposure in Nigeria.
The cities where people, assets and financial activity concentrate, shown for Nigeria as an example geography for this subject.
Seven areas, kept distinct.
- Financial stability analysisQuestion it addressesHow shocks propagate between institutions, markets and funding
- Catastrophe and protection gapsQuestion it addressesWhat is uninsured, why, and with what certainty
- Sovereign and public financial riskQuestion it addressesHow shocks reach public balance sheets, kept separate from investment questions
- Industry researchQuestion it addressesWhat each financial sector faces, analysed on its own terms
- Country financial-readiness viewsQuestion it addressesWhat national research says about financial readiness, released only with authorization
- Models and professional methodsQuestion it addressesHow estimates and scenarios are built, assumed and reviewed
- Financial data and rightsQuestion it addressesWhether a source may be used and published, and at what sensitivity
How a research finding is labelled.
| Label | Meaning in financial-risk research |
|---|---|
| OBSERVED | Measured directly, such as a satellite flood extent |
| OFFICIAL | From an authority's statistics, such as supervisory returns |
| MODELLED | Output of a model, such as a catastrophe model loss |
| ESTIMATED | Derived by combining sources, such as a protection gap |
| REPORTED | From a third-party report not independently checked |
| UNKNOWN | Not available; shown as missing |
Every claim carries its kind.
Financial readers need to know what kind of statement they are reading before they rely on it. GRA research uses one label per finding and never mixes kinds in a single figure.
- Observed and officially reported: measured or published by the source owner
- Institution-reported: stated by an institution about itself, not independently checked
- Estimated and modelled: derived with a stated method and uncertainty
- Forecast and scenario: a projection or a plausible future, never a prediction of loss
- Expert judgement and unknown: opinion with its basis, or a gap shown as a gap
Missing data is shown as missing, never as zero. Illustrations carry placeholder values and say so.
Science from GCRI, financial reading from GRA.
Hazard and dependency science
The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) supplies hazard models, dependency maps and exposure evidence, with methods and uncertainty, through its research library.
Financial transmission
GRA reads that evidence for credit, insurance, market and fiscal channels, and records the questions a competent institution would still need to answer.
Sector communities
The specialist financial network carries the sector methods, from actuarial mathematics to network contagion.
What is released, and how to take part.
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. Research outputs are listed in each area as they pass review and are released; no output is described as available before then. Researchers can propose a question or offer expertise at research@globalriskalliance.com. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.
