Spatial financeWhere capital meets hazard, exposure and transition

Research and intelligence

The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) publishes citable research on how real-economy risk reaches the financial system, and on the methods that measure it. Every finding carries one evidence label, its source owner and its limits, so a modelled figure is never read as observed. The research is precompetitive and industry-wide. It does no institution’s credit, underwriting or investment analysis. Part of the Global Risks Alliance home; it feeds publications and professional briefs.

03Evidence labels

How a research finding is labelled.

LabelMeaning in financial-risk research
OBSERVEDMeasured directly, such as a satellite flood extent
Published statisticsFrom an authority’s statistics, such as supervisory returns
MODELLEDOutput of a model, such as a catastrophe model loss
ESTIMATEDDerived by combining sources, such as a protection gap
REPORTEDFrom a third-party report not independently checked
UNKNOWNNot available; shown as missing
04Every claim carries its

Every claim carries its kind.

Financial readers need to know what kind of statement they are reading before they rely on it. GRA research uses one label per finding and never mixes kinds in a single figure.

  • Observed and published statistics: measured or published by the source owner
  • Institution-reported: stated by an institution about itself, not independently checked
  • Estimated and modelled: derived with a stated method and uncertainty
  • Forecast and scenario: a projection or a plausible future, never a prediction of loss
  • Expert judgement and unknown: opinion with its basis, or a gap shown as a gap

Missing data is shown as missing, never as zero. Illustrations carry example values and say so.

05Where the evidence comes from

Science from GCRI, financial reading from GRA.

GCRI

Hazard and dependency science

The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) supplies hazard models, dependency maps and exposure evidence, with methods and uncertainty, through its research library.

GRA

Financial transmission

GRA reads that evidence for credit, insurance, market and fiscal channels, and records the questions a competent institution would still need to answer.

Platforms

Sector communities

The specialist financial network carries the sector methods, from actuarial mathematics to network contagion.

06Status

What is released, and how to take part.

Information and enquiries are open today. Outputs appear in each area once reviewed and released. Nothing is described as available before then. Researchers can propose a question or offer expertise at the contact form. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.

09Questions

Questions and answers.

Is GRA research investment research?
No. It does not recommend, rate or value any security, issuer or financial product, and it is not advice to any reader.
Can members shape findings?
Members may propose questions and contribute expertise. They cannot approve a publication or change its evidence, as set out on conflicts, sponsors and neutrality.
Does GRA use firms’ confidential data?
Only within the rights a contributor grants. Data from competing firms is aggregated so that no individual firm can be identified, and no firm’s data passes to another.
Do you use third-party risk indices?
GRA research does not republish third-party risk index names or scores. Nexus indicators use NXS-GRX-native names and units, without invented values.
