Asia and the Pacific region
The Asia and the Pacific programme spans dense manufacturing and logistics networks, large monsoon and glacier-fed basins, and Pacific island states facing compound climate and connectivity risk. Work is organised by subregion so that national programmes can compare dependencies without merging their data or authority. The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) offers the financial perspective: catastrophe and protection-gap questions, supply-chain concentration in electronics and critical inputs, and compute concentration in financial infrastructure. The programme is forming. See Regional programmes.

The short answer.
The Asia and the Pacific region, seen from GRA, is the Nexus Consortiums region of manufacturing and logistics networks, monsoon and glacier-fed basins and Pacific island states facing compound climate and connectivity risk. GRA offers the financial perspective, including catastrophe and protection-gap questions; the region is forming.

What exists in this region today.
| Element | Current state |
|---|---|
| Programme state | Forming |
| Regional host | None on record; the region is in formation |
| Named programme | The East Asia Nexus Consortium programme sits within this region. Its public programme page is published by GRA; formation records and participating structures are confirmed by the Secretariat before they are listed |
| Planned hubs | India, Singapore, Japan: planned coordination roles, not offices |
| Regional desk | asiapacific@therisk.global, a desk of the Consortium Secretariat |
| GRA service level | R0: information and enquiries |
Countries in the region are research coverage. A country or hub named on this page is not a GRA office, member or partner, and a planned hub is not an operating site.
Instruments already on the public record.
| Instrument or body | What it does in the region |
|---|---|
| Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) | Parametric cyclone and earthquake cover for Pacific island governments |
| Southeast Asia Disaster Risk Insurance Facility (SEADRIF) | Regional risk pool and flood cover for participating ASEAN members |
| World Bank catastrophe bonds | Issued for several countries in the region with parametric earthquake and cyclone triggers |
| Supervisory climate guidance | Climate risk management guidance from several regional central banks and insurance supervisors |
How GRA reads the region's exposure.
Monsoon flood, tropical cyclone and earthquake drive the region's catastrophe exposure, often in dense manufacturing and logistics hubs that matter to global supply chains. GRA reads storm tracks from IBTrACS and flood layers against industrial zones and ports, so a single event can be traced from insured property to trade finance. Coastal evidence comes from GCRI island resilience.
What the region's financial centres are designed to examine.
- Catastrophe and protection-gap questions for typhoon, flood and earthquake exposure.
- Supply-chain concentration in electronics and critical inputs.
- Technology and compute concentration in regional financial infrastructure.
- Readiness work on these questions follows the translation method; none is a finding until evidence is assembled and reviewed.
Coordination roles and their programme focus.
- 01
India
Monsoon and heat, river systems, food, health, digital infrastructure, grids and Indian Ocean connections.
- 02
Singapore
Import dependencies, ports, urban continuity, digital systems and finance.
- 03
Japan
Seismic and tsunami resilience, manufacturing, robotics, ageing, energy and supply chains.
Hub focus is taken from the consortium geography. Regional dialogue is convened by The Global Risks Forum (GRF); see GRF Asia and the Pacific region. Shared-system evidence is on GCRI Asia and the Pacific region. Other regions: Middle East and North Africa and North America.
Terms used on this page.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Catastrophe bond | A security whose principal is reduced if a defined catastrophe triggers a payout to the sponsor. |
| Small island developing states | A UN-recognised group of island countries sharing social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. |
| Supply chain | The network of organizations, activities and flows that turns inputs into products and delivers them to users. |
