01In brief

The short answer.

Reinsurance and Catastrophe programmes organize its work on insurance and catastrophe, climate and hazards, and disaster and crisis at three levels: global priorities, regional applications and country work. Each programme shows its recorded status, from exploring and forming to active, paused or archived, and a plan is never presented as an activity. Countries take part through their national programmes and the Consortium Secretariat.

Scoping to review.

Canvas · scoping to reviewDesign, not a record
Research and industry programmes: a programme through its gatesA request with a named owner becomes a scoping note; inputs are qualified at a gate; delivery runs in workstreams; a controlled test and an independent review precede publication; the owner decides. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Hazards and exposure in the Gulf of Mexico coast.

For research and industry programmes, in GRA's spatial-finance reading, the map opens on night lights, population density and flood water with built-up and settlement extent from NASA GIBS, framed on the Gulf of Mexico coast; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

05Programme levels

Reinsurance and Catastrophe at global, regional and national level.

LevelReinsurance and Catastrophe focus
GlobalGlobal peak perils
RegionalRegional pools
NationalNational exposure data

Reinsurance and Catastrophe programme work is read against IAIS (ICS and climate application paper), EIOPA (Solvency II internal model and nat-cat standard formula calibration) and Lloyd's and market bodies (realistic disaster scenario practice). National entries would draw on event sets, exposure and loss records, and each would state which values are observed, official, modelled or unknown.

06Status

Every programme shows where it stands.

A programme is shown as exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived, according to its record. A plan is never presented as an activity.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
ProgrammeA group of related projects and activities managed together to obtain benefits that managing them separately would not, in the sense the Project Management Institute's programme standard uses.
Programme statusThe recorded state of a programme on Nexus pages: exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived. A plan is never presented as an activity.
Country ownershipThe principle that a country leads its own development policies and strategies and coordinates the actions that support them, set out in the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
ReinsuranceInsurance bought by insurers to transfer part of their risk to another carrier, limiting the effect of large or accumulated losses on their capital.
10Questions

Questions and answers.

How does a country take part?
Through its national programme. Country enquiries go to the Consortium Secretariat at contact@therisk.global or a regional desk.
