Member governance

Member governance at The Global Risks Alliance (GRA) will follow its bylaws and membership terms once they are adopted. This page explains what those instruments are designed to cover: who may be a member, what rights and obligations membership carries and, only where the bylaws authorize it, how members vote. No member right is implied by this page, membership terms are not yet published, and membership applications open only when their team, terms and review capacity are in place. See Membership and participation and About GRA.

01In brief

The short answer.

Member governance at GRA will follow its bylaws and membership terms once adopted: who may be a member, what rights and obligations membership carries and, only where the bylaws authorize it, how members vote. No member right is implied before then, and membership applications are not open.

Mandate to authority.

How The Global Risks Alliance is governedA mandate sets the platform's scope; an editor and reviewers govern what it publishes; programmes and the community supply the work; the integrity route handles corrections; authority over decisions stays outside. Design of the governance, not a record.

04Instruments

Bylaws first, then membership terms.

Bylaws

Corporate rules

Set out the classes of member, if any, and which decisions, if any, members take.

Membership terms

The member agreement

Set out criteria, contributions, obligations, rights to leave and the appeal route, published before applications open.

Competition policy

Rules for every meeting

A written competition policy that counsel reviews before membership opens governs how members meet.

05Rights and obligations

What the terms are designed to say.

Members are designed to haveMembers are designed to owe
Participation in platforms and working groups under the termsDeclarations of conflicts of interest
Access to GRA learning and published workRespect for confidentiality and data rights
A fair process for complaints and appealsCompliance with the competition rules in every meeting
Voting, only where the bylaws authorize itNever presenting participation as an endorsement or a licence

Rights listed here are the design, not current entitlements. No right exists until the bylaws and terms that create it are adopted.

06Who can be a member

An industry membership, by capacity.

Membership is designed for financial institutions, where the institution is the member, and for professionals who work on financial risk, in a personal capacity. Supervisors and other public officials are not members; they may take part in open GRA work only in their official capacity. Criteria are designed to be objective and applied equally to every applicant. Institutions taking part in a national programme do so through the National Nexus Consortium (NNC), a separate route described on Participate at The Global Risks Forum (GRF).

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
MembershipThe status of a person or institution admitted under published rules; at GRA it confers participation in professional work and no authority, endorsement or access to any transaction.
Business leagueUnder United States tax law, an association of persons with a common business interest whose activities improve conditions in a line of business rather than perform services for individual members for profit.
Board of directorsThe body legally responsible for governing an organization, overseeing its management and answering for its conduct under its statutes and the law of its jurisdiction.
08What membership does not confer

Each step is its own step.

  • An enquiry is not membership; a submitted application is not acceptance.
  • Membership confers no authority, appointment, endorsement, regulatory standing, data access or influence over findings.
  • A contribution or fee buys no outcome, appointment or access to restricted data.
  • How the safeguards apply is set out on Competition safeguards and Professional conduct and complaints.
09Questions

Questions and answers.

Can members vote?
Only where the bylaws authorize it, once they are adopted. This page implies no voting right, and no member right exists before the instruments that create it.
Do members influence GRA findings?
No. No sponsor or member may approve a publication, alter its evidence or own its findings, and membership contributions buy no outcome.
How do I register interest?
Write to membership@globalriskalliance.com. The acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step, and your enquiry is kept on record for when applications open.
The Global Risks Alliance

Start with an enquiry.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
