01In brief

The short answer.

Insurance Nexus tools are the public technical views the platform releases on insurance and catastrophe: maps, model descriptions and sector scenarios, each with its time and space reference, sources, licence and uncertainty. Analysis runs in Nexus Foundry for authorized projects, and data that is not released is not available through these pages.

Scoping to review.

Analytical and data resources: build, test and release in Nexus FoundryA request opens a workspace; data are ingested and validated; the model is built and tested on held-out data; an independent gate approves release with limits; the workspace is stood down and the record kept. Design of the process, not a record of a run.

03Geography

Connected activity in the Gulf of Mexico coast.

For analytical and data resources, in GRA's spatial-finance reading, the map opens on night lights and population density with night lights tonight from NASA GIBS, framed on the Gulf of Mexico coast; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

The interactive map needs JavaScript; the layer list and sources are below.

05Tools

Insurance Nexus maps, models and scenarios.

Insurance Nexus tools are released only after review, with sources, time and space reference and uncertainty.

ToolIn Insurance Nexus
MapsInsured exposure against hazard layers
ModelsEvent set, vulnerability and financial modules
ScenariosRealistic disaster scenarios and ORSA climate cases

In Insurance Nexus, a released map states its hazard layer and resolution, a model its assumptions and validation, and a scenario its narrative, for example a hurricane replayed against today's exposure and a parametric trigger. Values shown before release are design values.

06Build environment

Working with the tools.

Analysis runs in Nexus Foundry for authorized projects. Public pages show released views only, each with its time and space reference and its rights.

07Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
Public-safe releaseA recorded decision on the detail at which a layer may be published without exposing sensitive sites or people.
Coordinate reference systemThe definition that ties coordinates to locations on Earth, catalogued with EPSG codes.
Model cardA short document describing a model's intended use, training data, performance and limits.
