Insurance Nexus · Exercise controlExercise control, in outline: domain structure with placeholder names and illustrative values, not a record.
The Nexus cycle in Insurance Nexus is the eight-step path by which a question in the insurance and catastrophe field becomes evidence, a Foundry build, an organized community, a controlled test, a publication and a decision taken by the competent authority. Here the evidence step rests on actuarial mathematics as well as extreme value theory and tail risk, and findings feed Finance and Insurance Readiness.

For how work moves in this field, in GRA's spatial-finance reading, the map opens on population density and night lights with built-up and settlement extent from NASA GIBS, framed on the Gulf of Mexico coast; every other NASA layer, live feed and forecast waits in the layer list.

Layers and dates
Each Insurance Nexus step leaves a record with its evidence label.
| Step | In Insurance Nexus |
|---|---|
| Question | Where does insured loss stop and uninsured loss begin, and why? |
| Evidence | Event loss records, exposure schedules and hazard layers |
| Test | A hurricane replayed against today's exposure and a parametric trigger |
| Decide | Held by insurance supervisors and protection-gap researchers and other competent institutions, never by Insurance Nexus |
The Insurance Nexus cycle ends with renewal: lessons from each test change the next question, and the record shows what changed and why.
| Step | Owner |
|---|---|
| Question | National, regional or institutional priority |
| Evidence | STEM foundation of the platform |
| Build | Nexus Foundry |
| Organize | Nexus Ecosystem: community, chapters, councils, national cells |
| Test | Nexus Universe (independent site) |
| Publish | Nexus Reports |
| Decide | Competent authorities and institutions, through Nexus Rails |
| Renew | Corrections and the next annual agenda |
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Nexus cycle | The eight-step loop by which work moves in every Nexus field: question, evidence, build, organize, test, publish, decide and renew, each step with a named owner. |
| Competent authority | The body that a law or regulation designates to exercise a given power or duty, such as a supervisor, a civil protection agency or a ministry; only it can take the decisions the law assigns to it. |
| Peer review | Evaluation of a work by independent experts in the field before publication. |
| Solvency capital requirement | The capital a supervisor requires an insurer to hold so that it can absorb severe losses; Solvency II calibrates it to a one-year horizon at a stated confidence level. |
