Mandate and publisher
Actuarial and Quantitative Risk is a specialist platform of the Global Risks Alliance (GRA) for the actuarial and statistical methods that turn hazard, exposure and behaviour into loss distributions, capital and pricing questions, with their uncertainty stated. This page sets out its mandate, its publisher, its role limits and its current operating state. The platform is open for information and enquiries.

Mandate and publisher in seven parts.
What the platform exists to do.
The mandate is shared industry understanding of quantitative methods. The platform is GRA’s STEM core, serving insurance, banking, pensions and stability work, and the counterpart of Systems Science and Modelling at The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI).
Scope
Insurance and catastrophe, methods and modelling, and capital markets and investment.
Who takes part
Actuaries, quantitative analysts, catastrophe modellers, risk modellers, model validators and academic statisticians.
What it is designed to publish
Method notes, model validation guidance, quantitative annexes to finance-readiness dossiers and teaching material.
Its research is organised around eight topics, from loss distributions to mortality and longevity. It stewards actuarial mathematics and financial and risk engineering in the STEM Commons, the shared method library of the three institutions, so that the network describes these methods in one reviewed way.
The quantitative core of financial risk.
| Area | Methods | Main use |
|---|---|---|
| Loss distributions | Frequency-severity, compound models | Pricing and reserving |
| Tails | Extreme value theory, catastrophe models | Capital at 1-in-200 and reinsurance design |
| Dependence | Copulas, scenario dependence | Aggregation across perils and lines |
| Longevity and mortality | Stochastic mortality models | Pensions and life insurance |
| Validation | Back-testing, benchmarking, sensitivity | Model risk management |
What the platform is designed to produce.
Method notes with synthetic worked examples, validation checklists and shared method designs for Universe editions, designed for the Methods and Technical series and the Finance and Insurance Readiness series. Boundary. GRA gives no actuarial opinion, signs no valuation and prices no risk; professional responsibility stays with qualified actuaries under their standards.
Who is responsible.
GRA, a nonprofit corporation registered in Nevada, United States, operating as a business league for the financial services industry, publishes the platform and answers for its content.
- Editorial responsibility: a platform editor and named technical reviewers, with conflicts of interest declared.
- Methods: actuarial mathematics, extreme value theory, stochastic modelling, credibility and pricing theory, and model validation, documented on methods.
- Corrections: reported and logged on corrections.
What the platform does not do.
- It does not lend, underwrite, rate, invest, advise on or arrange transactions.
- It does not validate, approve or sign off any firm’s model, reserve or capital calculation.
- It does not set actuarial standards, admit members to a profession or regulate practitioners.
- It does not exchange competitively sensitive pricing or loss data; competition safeguards are designed and set out in a written policy.
- Readiness work is not approval.
Established.
The platform is published at its canonical address, as a first-wave candidate. It was created in the V4 architecture as a promotion of the actuarial methods topic of Reinsurance and Catastrophe, which remains a chapter topic there. Enquiries go to the contact form; the acknowledgement gives a reference and names the next step.

Bring an exposure or capital question to the Alliance.
Information and enquiries are open today. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
